3/21/2018 rhetorically analyzing "LGBT Activists Around The World Are Worried About The New US Secretary Of State"Read NowHayes Brown, the author of this article, discusses how the activists of the LGBTQ are worried about the new state secretary, Mike Pompeo. Pompeo's comments have left many people and activists in the LGBTQ community fear their rights.
In the article, Brown says "During his confirmation hearings April 12, when asked whether he continues to hold his previously expressed view that gay sex is a "perversion," Pompeo refused to give a direct answer." The comments that Pompeo made when asked about his opinions on the LGBTQ have left people wondering how he really felt. Throughout this article, Brown mostly demonstrates pathos when discussing how his comments left people in fear and how people of the community were both upset and sad about the fact that they could be losing their rights. I've also noticed that there aren't many tonal shifts throughout the article.

2/27/2018 rhetorically analyzing "The Florida Teens Started Their Movement In A Parent’s Living Room. Now These Big Progressive Groups Are Helping Them Organize."Read NowAs many have heard, not too recently there was a tragic school shooting in Florida at Marjory Stoneman High School with 17 lives lost. Students are taking the initiative to show how important it is for government officials to reinforce the laws on gun control. In this Buzzfeed article, authors Brianna Sacks and Marry Ann Georgantopoulos discuss this event and how people react to it. In their article, they demonstrate appeals to both ethos and pathos when discussing the heart break many people were put through after the lives of their loved ones were taken away and when discussing the positions of the lawmakers and people of authority of the gun control policies.
For pathos, the authors get to the readers' emotions when discussing that these students, feeling hurt and unsafe take matters into their own hands to march for better gun control in order to keep their schools safe and protect the lives of friends and family. On the ethos appeal, there were many lawmakers that these students planned to meet in order to stress the idea that stricter gun policies must be in place in order to avoid any type of issues such as the school shooting in the future. Overall, this article was very interesting. It opened my eyes about how the gun control policies in America really work and how they can be reinforced with more rules and regulations to keep people safe. It also showed that students can make a change if they all work together to show the importance. In this case, it just took the loss of many lives for them to see that something has to be done in the future and these lawmakers shouldn't have to wait for something like this, or something even worse to occur again to then decide that an action needs to take place. These teens had a plan to keep people safe, and it seems as though they won't stop until something is done. https://www.buzzfeed.com/maryanngeorgantopoulos/parkland-teens-organization?utm_term=.konDbmx37#.sbaxNA1J7 1/31/2018 RHETORICALLY ANALYZING "Trump Wants To Limit Family ReunificatiOn Immigration. Here's What That Would Mean."Read NowPresident of the United Stated, Donald Trump, recently stated that he wants to limit the reunification of immigrant families. Buzzfeed news author,Adolfo Flores recently wrote an article discussing Trump's new plan to furthermore prevent chain migration in immigrant families. Throughout the article, Flores talks about Vietnamese immigrant,Anh and how her family had been separated due to immigration laws. She talks about how she hadn't seen her father since she was 17 welcoming him with gifts and how hard it had been on her and her family. In the state of the Union Address on this recent Tuesday, Trump ordered new restrictions on family unification which would limit the family-based immigration to spouses and children. Crazy right? Well his proposal of the new plan will really impact, most likely negatively, immigrant families looking to reunite and become U.S citizens. Throughout the article, Flores demonstrates mainly pathos because he talks about how these actions will effect families all over the world and how they won't be able to see each other and their lives will be changed forever. 12/28/2017 Rhetorically analyzing "A Mother Is Facing A Felony Charge For Trying To Record Bullying At Her Daughter's School"Read Now In this article, the author is mainly discussing how Sarah Sims, a mother in Virginia was told by her daughter that there were children in her school who were constantly bullying her. Sims took it upon herself to secretly place a recorder in her daughters desk at school so that she could hear what the children were saying to and about her daughter. School officials notified the police of her actions after they soon discovered the recording device in the daughter's desk. "Sims was charged with one felony count for "interception, disclosure, etc., of wire, electronic or oral communications" as well as a misdemeanor count for "contributing to the delinquency of a minor," Virginia police wrote in an email to BuzzFeed News." says author Cora Lewis. I feel as if it wasn't fair for the mother t be charged with a felony for her concern for her child's safety, and that it wasn't ethically right for the school to completely ignore the fact that Sims's daughter was being bullied given that they had the evidence from the recording device.
I believe that in this article, the author is mainly appealing to pathos and logos. She used pathos when discussing how the daughter was being bullied, and logos when talking about the charges that the mother faced after the recorder was found. Overall from this article, I believe that both the parents and the school officials were somewhat in the wrong. Sims didn't have permission from the school to put the recording device in her daughter's desk, nor did she have permission from the children's parents that they could be recorded: The school was in the wrong for not acknowledging the fact that Sims's child was being bullied and that they had evidence from the recording device even if they didn't believe her. 11/11/2017 Analyzing "Female farmworkers say they stand with hollywood actresses against assault. They need solidarity too"Read NowThroughout this author is utilizing ethos and pathos to stress the arguments being made by the farm-workers. Pathos is being demonstrated to emotionally connect the readers with what they go through on a daily basis. Ethos is shown throughout and in the end of the article to show the credibility of the sources in which the author gets the information and to show that the author is qualified to speak on this topic. In the article it discusses what female farm-workers go through and where they stand when it comes to the Hollywood actresses who stand against assault. It was a very eye opening article which helps the reader put themselves in a situation in which they would be able to experience what they go through. 10/1/2017 RHETORICALLY ANALYZING "VIOLENCE ERUPTED IN spain AS CATALANS OVERWHELMINGLY VOTED FOR INDEPENDENCE"Read Now"Violence Erupted In Spain As Catalans Overwhelmingly Voted for Independence" an article on Buzzfeed News that was written by Rose Troup Buchanan and Ellen Cushing. These authors appeal to pathos throughout their article when they explain to the readers how many people were brutally injured when police fired rubber bullets on hundreds of people and physically dragging them away from makeshift polling stations in Spain who just wanted independence. The authors appeal to pathos by making the readers of the article feel bad for the people being injured and including images that provide visuals of those who were injured in this incident. They had included multiple videos and images that were provided by social media that display the kind of brutality the police officers were using on such innocent people, both young and old, as if they didn't care. It seemed as if their right to vote had been literally taken away from them as if it were being snatched right out of their bare hands. Above is a video showing how brutal the police officers were being by actually throwing these people around, just because they were voting.
